In Chinese history, all the previous dynasties destroyed the capitals except the Qing Dynasty. It was Dorgon, who did not destroy the Ming Imperial Palace, but Instead, he used it as the Qing palace after he moved the capital from Shenyang, Northeast china’s Liaoning Province to Beijing in October 1644. Had he burnt down the palace, we would not have the opportunity to see the Forbidden City built by the Ming Dynasty.
